New majority owner for Swedish startup
At GamesCom in Cologne 2018, a game developer from Sundsvall came to Sweden Game Arena’s showcase with an interesting game idea. The idea has now resulted in the game studio Sideline Labs AB becoming part of the sports game studio Gold Town Games. A business that in its entirety has a turnover of almost 12 million SEK.
Sideline Labs are based in Sundsvall and has since January 2019 been part of The Game Incubator at Science Park Skövde.
– We have always had the ambition to bring in more companies in The Game Incubator nationwide, not only from Skövde and Gothenburg. We felt it was a good opportunity to try it with Sideline Labs, says Per Micael Nyberg.
Sideline Labs has now signed a conditional agreement rendering Gold Town Games the new majority owner in the company. The deal has a total turnover of 11.95 million SEK giving Gold Town Games just over 50 percent of the shares in Sideline Labs.
– We are excited to have reached an agreement with Gold Town Games. The deal creates synergies between two Northern companies in Sweden with high ambitions. With the gaming platform W3XM, our game design and knowledge in American football, we can create a finished game together, says Stefan Sångberg, founder and CEO of Sideline Labs AB.
Per Micael Nyberg, Senior Business Developer at Science Park Skövde, is not surprised by the success of Sideline Labs
– Stefan and the team have the enthusiasm required to succeed, which was clear to me the first time I met them in Cologne. The business advisors at The Game Incubator are happy to have been able to help them on their way into the gaming industry, says Per Micael Nyberg.
