Science Park Skövde companies attend Sweden Game Conference!
Several companies from Science Park Skövde will be exhibiting at Sweden Game Conference 2019
For the 10th consecutive year, Sweden Game Conference takes place next week in Skövde. Over the span of four days (October 16-19), video game studios, game developers, researchers and gamedev students gather in Arena Skövde. On Saturday October 19, the event will open its doors to the public, who can play the showcased games and meet game developers.
Sweden Game Conference is an important event for Skövde as a game development hotbed. Here, students, game developers, gaming companies and researchers come to see what the video games industry – and especially the local and Swedish video games industry – has to offer. The focus is mainly on indie game development – video games made by individuals or small teams without any major company behind it.
About ten companies from Science Park Skövde’s startup program for games exhibit at the fair.
“Skövde has been prominent in game development for many years. This is a great opportunity for us to show what it is that makes so many new gaming companies to open their studios here. It is also a great opportunity for the game developers to showcase their games to an internationat attendance from the industry and to the public. Our good results are very much about the collaboration between the University of Skövde and Science Park Skövde’s startup program, The Game Incubator”, says Kenneth Johansson, operations manager for The Game Incubator, running in Skövde and Gothenburg.
Exhibitor from Japan
More than 40 exhibitors are present at this year’s Sweden Game Conference. It is a mix of small and large gaming companies, research projects and student productions.
“We have both local, national and international exhibitors. For example, a Japanese gaming platform and publisher will be present. It’s really fun that we succeed in attracting companies far outside Sweden’s borders with our design”, says business developer Per Micael Nyberg at Science Park Skövde.
In addition to the exhibitors, there are also some 50 national and international lecturers from various game development studios and important industry companies on site. Among the speakers are, for example, Åsa Roos, lead UX designer at BioWare and honorary doctor at the University of Skövde, Emily Grace Buck, narrative director at Gato Studio and Sara Ponnert, studio manager at Avalance Malmö.
The public is welcomed to the Sweden Game Festival
On October 19, the doors to the 1,500 square meter exhibition will be opened to the public. Visitors have the opportunity to play different games, meet game developers and watch different game characters brough to life in the annual Cosplay competition.
Sweden Game Conference is organized by Sweden Game Arena, a collaboration between the University of Skövde, Skövde Municipality, Science Park Skövde and the Västra Götaland region.
