DONNA DAY promotes inclusion and equality in the games industry

DONNA DAY is well on its way to becoming an institution in the Swedish games industry. It’s an inclusive event centered around meetings and learning opportunities for students and mentors from across the country.
“Two key values of the event are meeting role models and establishing legitimacy — when major studios get involved, it shows that inclusion and equality are vital topics for the industry,” says Jenny Brusk, founder of DONNA and Business Developer at Science Park Skövde.
For the ninth year in a row, more than 100 game development students and mentors from all over Sweden will gather in Skövde for DONNA DAY, taking place on October 22–23. The initiative works to promote gender equality within the games industry. The event is held in connection with Sweden Game Conference, and this year’s theme is Navigating the Future of Games.
Sharing experiences and insights
During two intensive days, participants will take part in a packed program of panel discussions, workshops, talks, roundtable sessions, and networking.
“We’re pleased to see the growing interest in DONNA DAY. It shows that equality in the games industry remains a highly relevant issue. The event serves as a valuable forum for exchanging experiences and insights — especially for students who are about to enter professional life,” says Jenny Brusk.

Industry partnerships make it possible
A crucial part of the event is the involvement of games companies. This year, participants will meet representatives from studios such as Coffee Stain Studios, NokNok Audio, Iron Gate, Star Stable Entertainment, EA DICE, and MAG Interactive.
“Strong partnerships with established Swedish studios not only create legitimacy and attention for the work around inclusion and equality, but also provide the financial support that allows us to offer students the chance to participate on highly favorable terms,” explains Jenny Brusk, adding:
“It also helps strengthen networks between industry professionals and future game developers.”
Creating confidence to take the next step
One of this year’s mentors is Ruth Atkinson, Talent Acquisition Manager at MAG Interactive:
“DONNA DAY is such a warm and welcoming place, and I’m proud to support these students. I’m here to cheer them on, share my insights on how to enter this tough industry from a recruiter’s perspective, and help them feel confident taking that first step. If I can inspire even one person, I’ll be very happy,” she says.
