IDUN Interactive Secures Publishing Deal with Surefire Games
The startups within Sweden Game Startup continue to grow, and next in line is the Stockholm-based games company, IDUN Interactive, which has secured a publishing deal with Surefire Games, a Hong Kong-based publisher experienced in launching successful titles in similar genres. The partnership marks a major milestone for IDUN Interactive, as they now have the support to finalize their strategy game and launch it globally.
"It's amazing to have secured a partner who truly understands our vision for the game IDUN. Surefire Games has previously worked on titles like The Riftbreaker and Lumecraft, making them a perfect fit for our project," says Gustav Hagerling, founder and CEO of IDUN Interactive.
IDUN Interactive, which specializes in strategy games with a focus on defending against hordes of monsters, has seen growing interest in its upcoming game, particularly in the Asian market. Their game, IDUN, has already attracted attention from Chinese players.
"Even though the game wasn’t translated into Chinese, we saw a large player base there, which was a clear indication that this was a market we needed to reach. Surefire Games felt like the right choice from the very beginning," Gustav explains.
As part of the agreement, the game will now be localized for both the Chinese and Japanese markets, which has already made a noticeable impact.
"After translating the game into Chinese and Japanese, the interest on Steam tripled," says Gustav.
Crucial Support
IDUN Interactive was founded by Gustav after a long career in the games and film industries. He previously worked at EA but decided to start his own company after facing restrictions from his former employer when it came to developing his own game projects.
"It was frustrating not being able to develop and release my own games, which was one of the reasons I decided to start my own company."
In the early stages, Gustav and IDUN Interactive faced the usual challenges many startups experience. Being a solo founder and managing everything from game development to company finances was demanding, and the support from the Sweden Game Startup program proved to be crucial.
"Sweden Game Startup not only gave me valuable advice but also provided the opportunity to apply for validation funding to attend key events like the Sweden Game Conference and Nordic Game," says Gustav.
Launch and Future Talents
Now, IDUN Interactive is looking ahead, planning to have the game ready for launch by the end of January 2025.
"The goal is to have the game nearly finished before Christmas, and with Surefire Games by our side, it feels like we have the right foundation for success. If all goes as we hope, the company will be able to generate enough revenue to expand and bring in more talent for future projects," Gustav concludes.
