On Tuesday, Minister for Culture Parisa Liljestrand visited Science Park Skövde to gain a deeper understanding of Swedish game development and how Skövde has emerged as one of the country’s most important hubs for game studios.
During the visit, she met with several entrepreneurs participating in Sweden Game Startup, Science Park Skövde’s startup program for aspiring game developers. She took the opportunity to ask questions about the kinds of game ideas being born in Skövde, how they reach a global audience, and what makes Swedish game development stand out.
“From Skövde’s perspective, it’s both the ecosystem that’s been built here with support from the University of Skövde, Science Park Skövde and the established studios in the city, and the tight-knit community that has grown over the years. Instead of seeing each other as competitors, we help and lift one another,” says Ellinor Bergman, CEO of Speldosa Interactive.

The Minister also got a closer look at what game development looks like in practice.
“Game development involves a wide range of creative processes: design, art, storytelling, and music production. The work within this field employs a large number of people in Sweden. In the government’s strategy for the cultural and creative industries, we highlight the importance of ensuring that the games industry has the right conditions to continue growing,” says Parisa Liljestrand.
We would like to extend a big thank you to the Minister for her visit and look forward to continuing the dialogue on how we can strengthen the Swedish games industry together!
