Oddiko secures new multi million investment and aims for a 2026 release

Oddiko has in just a few years grown from a student project into an emerging studio backed by several sizeable investments, and a long-awaited debut release is now in sight. With Meadgard, the team is preparing to step into the games market and describes their journey as both demanding and incredibly rewarding.

Oddiko was founded in spring 2022 by Linda Davidsson, Robin Bono and Kristina Jönsson. The team initially consisted of five members, but two chose to step away along the way. It all began when the founders met during the Game Creator programme at YRGO in Gothenburg. While studying, they developed a prototype called Beer and Plunder, which went on to win Best Design at Sweden Game Awards 2021 and gave them the confidence to keep building the project.

From the tavern to a bigger world

As development continued, more recognition followed. When the studio reached its two-year mark, the team took a step back to rethink the full potential of their project. They expanded the world beyond the tavern that had been central to Beer and Plunder, and the project evolved into Meadgard. Their pitch resulted in a SEK 6 million investment in 2024 from Behold Ventures and WDM Game Invest (formerly Windmill Game Invest), joined by two angel investors.

“In connection with that investment we could continue developing the game. We were able to scale up and expand the team. But we dreamed so big with this project that we had to go back to square one and start building a new prototype, all while I kept searching for more investors,” says Linda Davidsson, CEO of Oddiko.

New multi million investment secures Oddiko’s continued growth

At Nordic Game Conference earlier this year, Linda connected with one of Arrowhead Studios’ founders, Johan Pilestedt. He saw strong potential in both Meadgard and Oddiko’s trajectory, which has now resulted in an SEK 8 million investment from the Arrowhead founders through their holding company Shpel AB. The investment consists of a combination of equity capital and project financing. On top of this, Oddiko’s existing owners are contributing an additional SEK 1 million. In total, the new funding amounts to SEK 9 million, paving the way forward for Linda and the team, which has now grown to seven employees.

“We are incredibly excited about this investment and have just finalised the deal. It feels fantastic, and we are planning a Meadgard release for 2026.”

Meadgard invites players into shared adventure and exploration

Meadgard is a co-op adventure for PC where you and your friends embark on a mysterious journey to run the ultimate Viking tavern. Serve fiery and impatient guests, meet unique villagers and battle mythological creatures as you explore the island in search of rare ingredients. It is all about collaborating, creating, serving and fighting to prove your worth to the Norse gods.

“The goal is for the game to be most fun when played together, but it can also be played solo. There is nothing scary or gory in the game, and we imagine it for players aged thirteen and up. We are releasing for PC first, online, but are also exploring the possibility of releasing on additional consoles,” says Linda.

Invaluable support on the road to entrepreneurship

As their studies neared the end, the founders chose to leave their internships to fully commit to starting a studio. They reached out to the Sweden Game Startup program in 2022 to get support and guidance, which became the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey with Oddiko.

“The support we have received from Science Park Skövde and the startup program has been invaluable. We came straight from school and had no idea how to make a game or run a company. The aspects related to business development have been the most valuable for us. The business networks and leadership training have also been fantastic, at least for me,” Linda explains.

Ready to stand on their own after steady growth

As a startup, Oddiko has had support from business coaches Jenny Brusk and Jimmy Lee Öman at Science Park Skövde’s Gothenburg hub. The studio has grown steadily and is now ready to stand on its own. By the end of 2025 they will exit the Sweden Game Startup program.

“Oddiko has not had the fastest journey among our startups, but they have had a stable one. They have moved from a smaller funding round to a larger investment step by step. Now they have secured another investment to complete their first product and release it. This is a fantastic example of how success can be achieved even in tougher times through small, methodical steps,” says Jimmy Lee Öman, Business Developer at Science Park Skövde.

“We are incredibly grateful for all the support we have received from our coaches, both in business and on a personal level. We have gone from ‘How do you make a game?’ to preparing for a release next year. If you dream of making games, use the resources available and seek support. Now we are saying goodbye to Sweden Game Startup. We are ready,” Linda concludes with a smile that shows Oddiko is here to stay in the games market.
